At HOPE Online Learning Academy Co-Op, we believe that language should never be a barrier to education. Our English Language Learners (ELL) program is designed to help multilingual students develop English proficiency while excelling academically.


Through personalized instruction, in-person mentorship, and bilingual resources, HOPE ensures that students receive the support they need to gain confidence in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

How HOPE Supports English Learners

At HOPE, we understand that every English learner has unique needs. Our ELL program provides personalized language instruction, academic support, and a welcoming learning environment to help students succeed.

State Testing & Language Proficiency Assessments

As part of our commitment to academic success for English learners, HOPE follows Colorado’s state-mandated language proficiency assessments.


ACCESS Testing for English Learners


  • Who takes the ACCESS test? All students identified as English learners in grades 6-12.
  • When does testing occur? January 13 - February 14, 2025.
  • What does the test measure?
  • Listening – Understanding spoken English in academic settings.
  • Speaking – Expressing thoughts and ideas clearly in English.
  • Reading – Comprehending and analyzing written English texts.
  • Writing – Developing written communication skills in English.

Enrollment & Eligibility for ELL Services


Who qualifies for ELL support?


  • Students whose primary language is not English and need additional language instruction to achieve academic success.


How are students identified?

  • All new students complete a Home Language Survey during enrollment.
  • If a student speaks a language other than English at home, they take a screening test to determine eligibility for ELL support.


How do students enroll in ELL programs?

  • New students: English language proficiency is assessed during the enrollment process.
  • Returning students: Ongoing assessments ensure continued language development support.
